The Calgary Champions League (CCL) was created in 2022 out of the need for community-based tournaments to support community development, increase participation in sports and promote active living for youths and adults. The tournament provides opportunity to group players based on where they work and/or live in Calgary, creating an exciting atmosphere for people to show their sense of belonging to their Calgary communities while honing on their soccer skills and learning team work.
It should also be noted that the CCL is themed with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League in terms of the match fixture format, match ceremony proceedings, anthem and trophy presented to winners. This concept adds color to the tournament and sets the hearts of the players aflutter. Special thanks to UEFA for creating a fantastic brand which has endeared soccer enthusiasts all over the world for many years.
